Ya’ll better give Dumplin’ the same treatment as To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Dumplin’ is about a fat girl who doesn’t hate herself and enters into a beauty pageant as a form of rebellion. It has another fat girl and a gay girl in it. It has drag queens and a cute boy as well.
So go watch Dumplin’ because the second book deserves to be made into a movie as well.

“What a generous thought. That you are already what you’ve always wanted to be, and all you have to do is let go of the parts that are keeping you from that. But letting go is so terribly hard. I admit I have tried everyday. All the time. I want to let go. It’s not that I’m still holding on– it’s holding on to me.”— marsarchives (via wnq-writers)

I hate this notion that universities need to let literally anyone speak or else you’re stifling knowledge. Here’s something that stifles knowledge: having to explain very basic things over and over. If you let someone barge into a medical laboratory and yell “everyone stop what you’re doing and prove to me that germs exist”, that’s stifling knowledge. Shutting everything down so that a neo-nazi can calmly ask whether black people are people does not enrich a learning environment in any way, It drags everything down and exhausts everyone. Free speech absolutism is crude and unsophisticated, we need to acknowledge that sometimes speech has deleterious effects on the free speech of others.

it’s always so funny learning about the Great Depression in grade school cuz they don’t ever talk about how latinx and Hispanic people were lowkey deported to Mexico even if they weren’t Mexican and how the depression was literally twice as worse for black people who were the first fired and last hired. like educators always report these tragedies by how they impacted whites UNLESS you are in a class like AA studies or something.
This is the truth. The experiences of poc have been outright erased from history in US public education. The white experience is labeled as universal in order to cover up white crimes and to keep white kids ignorant so that we uphold white supremacy throughout our lives.
